It’s Over – My Chicago Marathon Journey Ends

Greetings everyone, Today is a tough day for me as I have to inform you that my training for the Chicago Marathon has come to an end. A few weeks back we talked about the difference between being hurt and injured. I thought I was hurt, so I rested. Took some time off. Road the bike for training and basically rested my foot hoping to heal in time to get back on my training schedule. Well, the day came for me to get back out there and run 4 miles for the day. I ran the four miles, limped the last mile, and couldn’t walk the next day. Actually, the next few days I was limping very badly. At that point I had to make a decision. STOP MARATHON TRAINING! The decision I made was to stop the marathon training. No sense in pushing to run 26.2 miles, when a short 4 mile run results in days of not being able to walk normally. If I were to try and push through this injury I fear that it might lead to long term pain and this is not something that I am willing to risk. Therefore, I have to stop my dream of completing the Chicago 2010 marathon, but will not give it up. I will be back next year ready to make it happen. THE REAL DOWNSIDE! The real downer is that I had to also stop the fundraiser I was doing for the local library here in Hazel Crest. It was my first philanthropic endeavor, I am positive there will be more in the future. So, I...

Flexibility: Week 11 – Chicago Marathon Journey

Greetings Good People, I am back with another update on my Chicago Marathon Journey. It has been a good week, but I had to make some changes. The title or theme of this video is Flexibility because I had to make some adjustments to my training schedule if I wanted to stay in the game and stay on pace for making the Chicago 2010 Marathon. As you may know, last week I got hurt during my training, foot injury. I pushed through it and kept running thinking I was just hurt. Well, turns out that I was injured and need to rest. Therefore, I took the week off from running and just rode the bike all week. Let me just say, the bike is serious business and cannot be taken lightly. It was a great substitute and I don’t think I missed too much by riding the bike. Here is the video, let me know what you think by leaving comments or sharing it with...

Grand Prairie Library Fundraiser

Being a philanthropist is high on my life goal list. It is something that I have long wanted to do. Yet, it is not my desire to wait until I am personally rich to do so. I want to go now. Networking, talking to people, and bringing them to the table is something that I can do now and this is valuable as well. So, let’s get moving in this direction. The first venture is to raise $2,000 for the Grande Prairie Public Library in Hazel Crest, Illinois. An investment in the libraries of the this country is an investment in the future of this country. We have an excellent system. Let’s see how we can improve upon it. I am running 26 miles in the 2010 Chicago Marathon and hoping you can donate $26 to the cause I am shedding the light upon. Enjoy the video and be sure to let me know what you think. P.S. Just had this thought¬† as I was loading to YouTube. How about some technology books and education on the mobile applications, internet and high tech sector. No reason our children should be shut out. Just a thought. Geesh, the more I think the more I realize we need a lot more money. Oh well, we will do what we can with what we can...

NO EXCUSES: Chicago Marathon Training – Week 7

There are not many things that we tolerate in the Taylor household when it comes to our children and life. Excuses are one of those things that are on the top of the list. We cannot stand them and neither should you. In fact, you shouldn’t even make them. When it comes down getting something done, making excuses does nothing for anyone, so let’s be sure not to make them cause they are too easy to do. They are everywhere. What you have to realize is that there will always be an easy way out of you not doing something, not taking it seriously, not working your hardest for it. There will always be short cuts, corners to cut and reasons not to give a 100%. It will rain when you need to be outside. You will not have enough time as your day all of a sudden becomes full. It will happen and much, much more. But when it comes to your health, you cannot afford to cut corners, play games, or make excuses. None of us are getting any younger and time to get active is now before it is too late. I am closing out week 7 of Chicago marathon training and it is kicking my butt. This 18 week program is no joke. Could I take a day off, could I cut a corner here or there? I am sure I could, but let me tell you when it comes time to run 26.2 miles in the hot sun, everyday that you cheated, cut a corner or took a day off will show. When you...

2010 Chicago Marathon Training – Week 6

Week 6 of my Chicago marathon training is almost complete. Today, I ran a 3 mile run in accordance with my plan. This is the video I did right after that run. In this series of videos, I run my miles, grab some water, turn on the camera and start recording. Fresh off the street and to you, so please forgive the sweat. It’s hot outside and I am getting it! Enjoy the video and remember I am raising money for the Hazel Crest Public Library. The goal is $2,000 and we are looking for people willing to put up $1 per mile, $26 total to reach this goal.¬† And I am very confident this can happen. HEALTH IS WEALTH, GET SOME IN YOUR LIFE! ALL THINGS HAPPEN FIRST IN THE MIND, THEN IN...

Week 4, 2010 Chicago Marathon Training

What’s happening, good people? I hope you are still at it chasing your goals and dreams because I know that I am. There is no rest for those that have things to accomplish. This week is week 4 four of my training and we are banging it out. Last week ended with a 5 mile run, but that was all good cause the week was kind of a rest period. This week ends with a 9 mile run and every Saturday after that the distance is increased. Now is the time for those that are scared to bail out of the competition and let the grown ups come to the forefront. Sure, this is going to be the toughest running schedule that I have ever endured, but endure it I will. There is no way that I will not hit my goal of finishing the 2010 Chicago Marathon and I am not going to let anything stand in my way. Let me know what you think about my training and how things are going. Or let me know if I have inspired you yet to take matters into your own hands and get your health in order. Either way, I would love to hear from you and get some words of encouragement. Check the viddy, get fired up, and remember, HEALTH IS WEALTH GET SOME IN YOUR LIFE! ALL THINGS HAPPEN, FIRST IN THE MIND, THEN IN...
